Southwark Community Sports Trust is awarded £45,000 grant from Sport England Inspired Facilities programme for new cricket nets and practice facilities.

PROPOSITION TO SECURE THE FUTURE OF DULWICH SPORTS GROUND
On Tuesday 11 February the Southwark Council Planning Committee approved the applications for both the nursery/ wet weather classrooms and the flat. The case was well weighed by the Southwark Planning team who steered the Councillors through the decision making. Two of the local ward councillors objected. Our supporter Paul McNicholl ( a former KCHRFC player and Turney Road resident) spoke eloquently and from the heart. The Councillors acknowledged our special case, the wider community purposes and the value of the Southwark Community Sports Trust voluntary work. They also noted the e-petition with 353 signatures.
The next step is the issue of the letter of approval by Southwark which will set the exact terms of the grant of application. We know that these terms will include the designation of personal (SCST) permission to erect and use the buildings for a nursery and flat, provision of 1:50 drawings and tree protection plan.
The work by the Council officers to demonstrate due process and to grant permission in exceptional circumstances may reduce options for appeal/judicial review. On the night the Councillors on the Committee decided that it was an exceptional cause (by four votes to one) to develop on Metropolitan Open Land.
Our path is now to plan to make it happen as the circumstances have changed since the summer of 2013. We have to plan to connect services, commission and remove the classrooms from store, liaise with Dulwich Estate and Southwark Council to do it properly and ensure that we stick to the specifications.
We would like to thank all of you who wrote letters of support and signed the petition. Your support was a major factor in getting the Southwark Community Sports Trust on track to renew our lease and then be in a
position to continue to provide sports facilities for the local community and beyond.

SCST wins OSCA award.
At a presentation on 21st August 2013 John Smith, Chairman of Southwark Community Sports Trust won the award for Building Partnerships at the annual Outstanding Services to Cricket Awards presented by Surrey County Cricket Club and sponsored by Nat West. This meant that the Trust went forward to the national awards held at Lords wherein John was the runner up.
This award was in recognition of the leadership displayed by John but also a recognition of the efforts of all the team involved in salvaging the grounds from closure. (see News for more details)
Football Foundation Grant.
We are pleased to announce that the Trust (SCST) has been awarded a grant in the amount of £3,700 from the Football Foundation for the purchase of 5 new sets of football goals. (see News for Press Release to be sent to local newspapers).
Parking at the Sports Ground.
As many will be aware parking at the grounds (particularly on Sunday mornings) is a headache. We estimate we can accommodate about 150 cars including the overflow parking area. The Directors of the Trust are currently acting as parking attendants on Sunday mornings but it would be greatly appreciated, in order to accommodate your opposition sides within the grounds if you could consider either using public transport or using off street parking in the vicinity of the ground. Whilst Turney Road tends to be used by residents we have noticed that there tends to be plenty of space on continuation of Turney Road after the railway bridge and on Rosendale Road. It is less than a 5 minute walk.
Drainage at the Ground.
The drainage, particularly on the railway side of the grounds and beneath our iconic willow tree causes major problems and has to be addressed if we are to maintain the facilities to the highest standard. To this end we have commissioned a survey from a company, TGMS Ltd (www.tgms.co.uk) as recommended by the ECB. This will take place on 2nd November as a result of which we will have a detailed report itemising options and the potential cost of undertaking these works. It will not be cheap !! and we will be seeking grant funding and other fundraising in order to undertake this.
