October 10, 2012 at 3:29 PM South Bank Cuaco FC have had a comprehensive profile written about them in the Southern Amateur League's "Standard" newsletter. Download and read more on pages 4, 5 and 6. (5MB PDF) Excerpt: South Bank Cuaco was formed as recently as 2002 although this belies not one, but two long histories belonging to the clubs which joined together to create this new entity. The Commercial Union Assurances Company (CUACo) joined the Southern Amateur League in 1919 having previously competed in the London Insurance Offices F.A. league competitions before World War I. The club played its games initially at Southend Lane and then Elm Lane in Catford. It later moved to Copers Cope Road, Beckenham where it enjoyed near neighbours in Midland, Nat West and Lloyds Banks. The facilities at Copers Cope were second to none and after the club moved out the facilities were taken over for training purposes by Crystal Palace F.C. SCST Awarded Grant to host Free Sport Cricket Programme, sponsored by the Mayor of London’s Office Southwark Community Sports Trust is awarded £1,225 grant to host a Free Sport cricket programme sponsored by the Mayor of London’s office Between 21st & 24th August Southwark Community Sports Trust hosted a “FreeSport” cricket coaching programme. 37 children, aged between 9 &14 took part. They represented 13 different schools in the area. Over and above the actual coaching programme Surrey County Cricket Club kindly provided 30 free tickets to a CB40 match at the Oval. The game wasSurrey versus Glamorgan and was in effect a tribute match to Tom Maynard who played for both counties and tragically died during the summer. 20 children and 10 of their parents attended which, to most, gave them children a first time opportunity to see a live game at the stadium. We also concluded the event on the Friday with a bar-be-que to which all the parents were invited with an impromptu parents versus cricket game resulting. The event was made possible by the award of a grant for £1,225 from the Mayor of London’s FreeSport fund. FreeSports main emphasis is on getting more people involved in sports, doing rather than watching, and continuing in long term participation. The coaching was led by Allen Blackford who put together an international array of coaches hailing fromSouth Africa,AfghanistanandWaleswhich perfectly complimented cosmopolitan make up of the children in attendance. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and, if further funds are available, The Trust will be looking to host similar programmes. John went forward to the National Awards held at Lords and was announced as runner up. This award was in rightful recognition of the leadership displayed by John in taking the initiative to endeavour to salvage the grounds from closure but also in recognition of the efforts to the rest of the team involved. What are the NatWest OSCAs?The NatWest OSCAs (the 'Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards') are our way of recognising those who make an exceptional contribution to community cricket. Nominated by you, the club cricketers, and awarded by NatWest, these awards give us all the chance to celebrate the remarkable people without whom community cricket would not be the wonderful game that we all enjoy today. Local cricket volunteers and famous faces from the cricketing world come together at Lord's for the NatWest OSCAs each year. The awards recognise the dedication and commitment from volunteers within the local cricketing community and celebrate the amazing achievements of those unsung heroes who have devoted their time and energy in order to make cricket as rewarding and fun as possible for everyone to enjoy. Finalists enjoy a tour around the home of cricket, Lord's, before sitting down to a beautifully prepared three course lunch. The awards are overseen by Jonathan Agnew, who entertains with stories straight from the TMS box, and handed out by legends of the game past and present including Michael Vaughan. 2012 Nominees Behind the Scenes Jonathan Jackson - Bartestree and Lugwardine Cricket Club, Herefordshire Dave Lander - Penn Street Cricket Club, Buckinghamshire Steve Martlew - Wigan Cricket Club, Lancashire Building Partnerships Paul Daniels - Old Elthamians Cricket Club, Kent Richard Henchley - Newham Cricket Club, Essex John Smith - Southwark Community Sports Trust, Surrey Leagues and Boards Colin King - Mid Norfolk Sunday Cricket League Paul Grainger & Kevin Drew - North Worcestershire Cricket Development Group Phil Williams - Warwickshire Cricket Board and Midland Club Cricket Conference Lifetime Achiever Chris Evans - Ashford Cricket Club, Surrey Peter Thomas - Swardeston Cricket Club, Norfolk Frank Wilkinson - Morecambe Cricket Club, Lancashire NatWest CricketForce Bobby Cross - Heywood Cricket Club, Lancashire John Gray - Galleywood Cricket Club, Essex Amy Rowlinson - Bromley Town Cricket Club, Kent Officiating - Umpires & Scorers Deborah Burns - Middlesex Association of Cricket Officials (ACO) Lorraine Elgar - Swale Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers, Kent Alan English - Thames Valley Cricket League, Bucks Association of Cricket Officials Young Volunteer Christopher Edwards - Cheshire Disability Squad Matiullah Haidar - Cricket for Change, Surrey Carl Tupper - West Wittering Cricket Club, Sussex Tags: Cricket Surrey CCC Nat West OSCA's Category: Founders ![]() January 26, 2012 at 11:42 AM Southwark Community Sports Trust is awarded £45,000 grant from Sport England Inspired Facilities programme for new cricket nets and practice facilities. Tags: Funding Sport England Cricket Category: Funding Archived News Updated 28 February 2014 PROPOSITION TO SECURE THE FUTURE OF DULWICH SPORTS GROUND On Tuesday 11 February the Southwark Council Planning Committee approved the applications for both the nursery/ wet weather classrooms and the flat. The case was well weighed by the Southwark Planning team who steered the Councillors through the decision making. Two of the local ward councillors objected. Our supporter Paul McNicholl ( a former KCHRFC player and Turney Road resident) spoke eloquently and from the heart. The Councillors acknowledged our special case, the wider community purposes and the value of the Southwark Community Sports Trust voluntary work. They also noted the e-petition with 353 signatures. The next step is the issue of the letter of approval by Southwark which will set the exact terms of the grant of application. We know that these terms will include the designation of personal (SCST) permission to erect and use the buildings for a nursery and flat, provision of 1:50 drawings and tree protection plan. The work by the Council officers to demonstrate due process and to grant permission in exceptional circumstances may reduce options for appeal/judicial review. On the night the Councillors on the Committee decided that it was an exceptional cause (by four votes to one) to develop on Metropolitan Open Land. Our path is now to plan to make it happen as the circumstances have changed since the summer of 2013. We have to plan to connect services, commission and remove the classrooms from store, liaise with Dulwich Estate and Southwark Council to do it properly and ensure that we stick to the specifications. We would like to thank all of you who wrote letters of support and signed the petition. Your support was a major factor in getting the Southwark Community Sports Trust on track to renew our lease and then be in a position to continue to provide sports facilities for the local community and beyond. See the attached pdf statement which explains the need to secure an income stream not at the mercy of the weather. SCST_Project_Statement.pdf SCST wins OSCA award. At a presentation on 21st August 2013 John Smith, Chairman of Southwark Community Sports Trust won the award for Building Partnerships at the annual Outstanding Services to Cricket Awards presented by Surrey County Cricket Club and sponsored by Nat West. This meant that the Trust went forward to the national awards held at Lords wherein John was the runner up. This award was in recognition of the leadership displayed by John but also a recognition of the efforts of all the team involved in salvaging the grounds from closure. (see News for more details) Football Foundation Grant. We are pleased to announce that the Trust (SCST) has been awarded a grant in the amount of £3,700 from the Football Foundation for the purchase of 5 new sets of football goals. (see News for Press Release to be sent to local newspapers). Parking at the Sports Ground. As many will be aware parking at the grounds (particularly on Sunday mornings) is a headache. We estimate we can accommodate about 150 cars including the overflow parking area. The Directors of the Trust are currently acting as parking attendants on Sunday mornings but it would be greatly appreciated, in order to accommodate your opposition sides within the grounds if you could consider either using public transport or using off street parking in the vicinity of the ground. Whilst Turney Road tends to be used by residents we have noticed that there tends to be plenty of space on continuation of Turney Road after the railway bridge and on Rosendale Road. It is less than a 5 minute walk. Drainage at the Ground. The drainage, particularly on the railway side of the grounds and beneath our iconic willow tree causes major problems and has to be addressed if we are to maintain the facilities to the highest standard. To this end we have commissioned a survey from a company, TGMS Ltd (www.tgms.co.uk) as recommended by the ECB. This will take place on 2nd November as a result of which we will have a detailed report itemising options and the potential cost of undertaking these works. It will not be cheap !! and we will be seeking grant funding and other fundraising in order to undertake this.
